They\u2019re pretty damn tasty, and for our hearty Hungarian stomach, that\u2019s more than enough. With farsang soon here, we\u2019ll give you our second most beloved dough-based dish: the mighty f\u00e1nk (also known as doughnut)!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Doughnuts have been enjoyed by the sweet toothed ever since the time of Ramesses II. They\u2019re found everywhere, from Vietnam to Italy, but everybody does them a little bit differently. Our version arrived to the Hungarian tables through Germany, that\u2019s why the eerie resemblance of the Berliner to the f\u00e1nk.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-funzine-large wp-image-305998\" src=\"https:\/\/funzine.hu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/food-sweet-fank-donut-f\u00e1nk-farsang-carneval-AdobeStock_123704526-850x567.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"850\" height=\"567\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>For a delicious and authentic Hungarian f\u00e1nk experience, follow this recipe:<\/h3>\n<p>To get 40 pieces of doughnuts, you\u2019ll need around 5ml yeast, 5dl milk, 4 egg yolks, 1 egg, 1.2dl sugar, 0.6dl butter, 17dl flour and some oil for frying.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dissolve yeast in warm milk: add 2 cups (around 6dl) flour and let stand in a warm place for half an hour.<\/li>\n<li>In another bowl, beat the eggs and sugar until you get a light texture, then add it to the yeast mixture.<\/li>\n<li>Add the remaining flour and melted butter, and let it rise until doubled in bulk.<\/li>\n<li>Place dough on a floured surface and pat it with hands until 1.5cm thick.<\/li>\n<li>Cut into circles with a cookie cutter.<\/li>\n<li>Cover and let it rest for about 15 minutes, until it\u2019s doubled in size.
