VárkertFeszt

One of Budapest’s most beloved early-summer festivals returns to the stunning Várkert Bazár for another packed weekend, on 6-7 June. Mornings belong to the little ones, with puppet shows, fairy tale villages and interactive performances, while afternoons and evenings shift up a gear with a rich lineup spanning blues, folk, world music and electronic sounds. Jazzfest Budapest

Hungary’s only premium jazz festival once again brings together the international elite of the genre with local audiences between 27 June and 2 July. The names Pat Metheny, Al di Meola, Terence Blanchard and Ravi Coltrane, and the Charles Lloyd Sky Quartet speak for themselves, while this year’s guest of honour, South Korea, promises a truly special atmosphere with performers such as Cho Yoonseung and Youn Sun Nah. Downtown NYE @ Instant-Fogas

The city’s biggest ruin bar complex, Instant-Fogas raises the stakes by organizing not one, but several parties to celebrate the end of 2019 and the arrival of the New Year. From 25 to 31 December every night brings another concert experience starring popular entertainers from the Hungarian music scene: Colorstar, Random Trip, Hősök and JumoDaddy, just to mention a few. It’s not a concert series, it is like a mini festival in downtown Budapest! Tickets go for 5000 HUF in advance and 6000 HUF on the spot, pre-sales start on 29 November. Weekly passes will be also available for purchase for 12 000 HUF via Cooltix. The list of locations is complete with LARM, FRAME, Robot, UnterWelt and Liebling. Happy NYE @ Heaven Club

Downtown Budapest’s newest and most glamorous party venue invites you for an authentic house party experience on 31 December: the playlist of Heaven Club’s Happy NYE will only feature songs that make your body dance and your soul happy. Party through the night and welcome the new year in the company of the city’s merriest crowd, moving to the greatest tracks of Avicii, Alvaro Soler, Justin Timberlake, The Chainsmokers, Pharrell Williams and others! Stop the Time – Psylvestrance @ Dürer Kert

If you’re of the opinion that there’s no better time of the year to experience a collective state of bodily transcendence than New Year’s Eve, then you’re in luck, because Psylvestrance is here to transport your mind into another realm! Organized by goa.hu, Forever Psychedelic, and Psybaba Records, the 31 December party will be held at Dürer Kert, featuring an international lineup of psychedelic and goa trance producers, including Pixel from Israel and Cosmo from Slovakia, Martin Audio Ltd soundsystem, and mind-blowing visuals. Doors open at 9 PM. Early bird tickets are available from 4,000 HUF.

A38 NYE

Not everyone has the budget for welcoming the New Year on a luxury cruise ship – some of us will have to do with a repurposed Ukrainian stone carrier ship docked on the river Danube. Thanks to the A38 NYE party’s rich lineup of Hungarian electronic music producers, we don’t really mind! Organized by the Bladerunnaz and Next Level teams and starting at 10.30 PM, the event will feature no less than 18 performers (including Dublic, Chris.Su, Statik, DJ Ren and Maddow) spread over two rooms, supplying party-goers with a heavy dose of bass music, from dubstep and dnb to riddim, trap, jumpup, bass house, neurofunk, liquid, and jungle.

Jazz New Year’s Eve @ Budapest Jazz Club

Looking to ring in the New Year in style this year? Instead of spending the night at home in your pajamas or a dark and crowded party venue, why not celebrate with classy tunes, and a five-star culinary experience? Budapest Jazz Club’s Jazz New Year’s Eve combines contemporary jazz and a friendly atmosphere with international dishes served throughout the evening and traditional stuffed cabbage with sour cream at midnight. Ensuring the good vibes will be SoLaTi Band, Elsa Valle Afrocanado, and the Tálas Áron Trio. A full night ticket goes for 24,900 HUF.

Concerning the music and dance scene in Budapest, the end of summer means that outdoor programs and event series return to clubs, music halls and other places of entertainment, but in order to open up another club season, we should bid farewell to summer in a proper way. On 30 August, Next Level will close their Trap Squad vs Rumble season at Barba Negra Track Terrace, and will go on preparing for their grandiose 5th birthday at Akvárium on 28 September, including acts as Franky Nuts, Joyrdye, Stööki Sound and many more. The venue will have its own contribution of letting summer go by inviting Quimby and Jónás Vera to give an unforgettable concert on 20 September.

As for summer closing dance parties, there are also a few to choose from. On 7 September, CityMatiné will air their 3rd episode of season 8 at Palatinus Beach on Margitsziget. This episode is self-explanatorily titled Summer closing dance, so if you would like to dance while saying goodbye to summer, you know what to do. What’s more, you can do the same at Budapest Park as well. On 12 September, they will host an event with the same title, thus the choice is yours.

By the end of September, all of A38 Ship’s outdoor event series will come to an end: Palotai’s Sunday sessions, Lick the Click Saturdays and also the Fridays powered by Bladerunaz. The latter will close the last chapter of summer with a bang as they will host LSB and Monrroe on 27 September in a night edition of Friday. All in all, don’t worry about another summer passed by, for the upcoming club season there have already been some promising and incredible nights announced and in order to get there, we have to leave the summer behind.

The circus of race cars aka Formula 1 arrives at its Hungarian stop between 2 and 4 August, so if you want to see drivers fighting wheel-to-wheel LIVE, here’s your shot. The Hungarian Grand Prix takes place in Mogyoród, only 19 kilometres from the capital city. On 2-3 August though, head to Kazinczy utca, where a completely new party venue opens its gates, namely Hétkert, Ötkert’s little brother.

Don’t you just love that feeling when you walk around in the city and all of a sudden you bump into a lovely gig and forget for a moment where you were going, because the atmosphere just drags you in? If you would like to experience the above mentioned phenomenon, make sure you head to Hadik Café on 2 August. The café that many 20^th century writers and poets held so close to their hearts will host Fran Palermo on their terrace to promote their event, Hadik Street Ball.

This all sounds lovely, but let’s admit that the crowd, noise, and the hustle and bustle of the city can be too much sometimes, and in times like these, it just feels good and right to leave it all behind for a while, and escape downtown as far as possible. Maybe as far as Római-part, where you can enjoy the landscape of Danube’s bank in a beautiful environment, filtering out everything that once resembled the teeming and lively city. If you would like to make sure to be protected against the heat, visit the “seaside” of Budapest, Lupa Beach. The lake hosts numerous daytime activities and even occasional beach parties, but if you are interested in beach volleyball, visit Lupa Beach between 8 and 11 August, as it will witness the international cup of FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour 1-Star.

After an intense day at the beach we should head back to the city, but still strictly to the green areas. There are a lot of public parks and gardens in Budapest which host free events with which, unfortunately, not many people are familiar. Take Orczy Kert, for instance. The park gives home to a complete series of events called Orczy Summer Chill, orchestral concerts, theatre plays, and film screenings. All of them are worth giving a try, and so is the open-air stage on Margaret Island with events of similar topics as listed above. However, there is one concert to highlight, because it really stands out: Zagar’s show, titled Electric Rituals. Zagar has been a pioneer in the electronic music scene for many years, but for this occasion, he invited several guests with several different instruments to give a unique and outstanding concert, also focusing a bit more on the visuals. Make sure you will be there on 23 August.

Speaking of visuals and good views, everyone loves to enjoy panoramic views over Budapest. We’ve already come back to the city, but make no mistake, the parties with the best views are actually deep in the heart of Budapest, on the rooftop of President Hotel, presented by Be Massive, for instance (11 and 25 August). Last but not least, what else offers better visuals than the fireworks on our national holiday on 20 August? Enjoy the amazing show while partying with the Next Level team that will bring Borgore to you. The EDM DJ will make up for his postponed show of July at Barba Negra.

All considered, the aforementioned events are only the tip of the iceberg. If you ever catch yourself complaining about how fast this summer has gone, remember, it is far from over. Have fun, and as always, see you there!

In the past, Siófok was knowns as a charming city that comes out of its daytime hibernation only at the evening. But nowadays it offers plenty of entertainment to its visitors all day long. Its name had welded together with a popular summertime location, PLÁZS Siófok, a splendid white-sand plage where you’ll find everything essential for the perfect holiday. Other than sunbathing or splashing in the lake during the day, several sports activities (Scitec Muscle Beach, for instance) are awaiting holiday-goers, and the plage’s food court is also there to serve the needs. Then, when the night comes, PLÁZS turns on the party mode.

The first items on the list of evening programs is Viktor Király and popular band Magna Cum Laude who are scheduled to perform on the 3-day weekend between 17-19 May which is it is completely free to attend. The official season-opening takes place after Whitsun; Palace Dance Club’s unmissable party kicks off summer at 8 June in a new location, at PLÁZS Arena, but first, Hungarian hip-hop band Bëlga and rapper Krúbi warm up the crowd on the stage. On 9 June, two iconic Hungarian bands (Bikini, and Republic) will walk onto the stage with a performance followed by Dj Dominique, Kozmix, and an adored musician couple, György Korda and Klári Balázs.

Get the party started!

In the weekends to come, several must-attend events are scheduled. Among the performers there are popular Hungarian singers and music collaborations such as Ákos, Majka, Tamás Horváth, Halott Pénz, Wellhello, Cloud 9+, Follow the Flow, Fritz Kalkbrenner and Neoton, presenting completely different genres so that everyone would find what’s right up their street. Party people, make sure to check out Viki Metzker’s upbeat DJ-set and the popular party-series, Necc Party (with the greatest hits of the ‘90’s) too.

This time around Europe’s largest outdoor party venue will be given a complete makeover, inviting music fans on a journey to a whole different world, called Planet 8. The open-air cultural space will open its gates on 25 April with the gigantic all-star party of Hungary’s biggest hip-hop acts: the performance of Fővárosi Rapcirkusz will see the likes of Punnany Massif, Irie Maffia, Saiid, Dopeman, Hősök, Animal Cannibals, Follow the Flow, Mikee Mykanic, Q-Cee, Mr. Die, Sör és Fű, NKS, and Vörösmarty Téri Betyárok sharing the big stage, accompanied by a real orchestra. Following the opening concert, one of the city’s most beloved R’n’B party series will take over the scene: DJ Nara and Endy will supply the hot rhythms and high notes at the Queens Party.

The eve of 26 April will be marked by the performance of Hungarian alternative rock band Vad Fruttik, with support from Konyha, and the season’s first Lidocain Night, sending into battle the coolest alternative tracks from Hungary.

The closing night of Budapest Park’s first weekend will be held on 27 April: the concert of Hungarian singer-songwriter Magdi Rúzsa promises us with an overwhelming and dazzling experience full of surprises, including a guest appearance by the young Hungarian talent Zävodi. There’ll be no need to venture far for the afterparty: the video disco team of Pressplay will provide you with plenty of songs to dance away any surplus energy you have after the eventful opening weekend.
