Károly Ujj Mészáros caught the attention of the audience with his first movie, the romantic comedy

Károly Ujj Mészáros caught the attention of the audience with his first movie, the romantic comedy of Liza, the Fox Fairy that became a blockbuster in Hungary and won several prizes all over the world. Now he decided to make something completely different, a Skandinavian type of crime story that is completely unique, a new colour in the palette of contemporary Hungarian film. X – the eXploited is starring Móni Balsai, the muse of Ujj Mészáros. The film will be screened from 1 November with English subtitles in Art+ and Művész cinemas in Budapest.

Who would believe in a policewoman who suffers from such serious panic disorders that she is afraid to get near any crime scene and so has been on permanent office duty for more than a decade? Who would believe a lone mother who is unable to pay her mortgage and also to raise her rebellious teenage daughter? Indeed, no one believes that this troubled woman has discovered a serial murder case.

Personal dramas and a murder mystery unfold in present-day Budapest, where the demonstrations of an angry new generation are part of the pre-election life of the city; where the historical and recent past still haunts its people, resulting in concealed and horrendous crimes. It is a city where nothing seems honest and true, except an emotionally unstable policewoman and her misfit daughter who wants to know who her father truly was.

It has been 40 years since the iconic and semi-autobiographical comedy of Woody Allen arrived to the

It has been 40 years since the iconic and semi-autobiographical comedy of Woody Allen arrived to the cinemas, on the 20th April 1977. However, the Oscar-winning romance never seems to get old. To celebrate its birthday, we rounded up 10 fun facts, that you might not know.

It wasn’t expected to be romantic. The director and co-writer Woody Allen’s original mission was not to make a relationship picture, and he was slightly disappointed with the result.

Also, the original title should have been different. It was planned to be Anhedonia, a word meaning the inability to experience pleasure in normally enjoyable circumstances, but a title that could not be sold.

It was supposed to be 140 minutes. Almost 50 minutes longer than it turned out.

Allen’s cocaine-induced sneeze was a real thing. The sneeze was unexpected, and stayed in the movie thanks to test audiences’ resultant delight.

The Truman Capote lookalike was played by Truman Capote. The writer of Breakfast at Tiffany’s portrayed a man who won the “Truman Capote lookalike” contest in the movie.

It inspired the America fashion in an unexpected way. The Annie Hall-look, with all the bowler hats, coats and blazers, baggy pants, and neckties became desired after the movies release.

Early drafts contained some fantasy elements as well. But honestly, can you imagine Annie and Alvy time-hopping to various historical events?

Some scenes were so cheesie, Allan couldn’t bear the idea of them. For example, a late-in-film fantasy bit in which a sentient traffic light convinces Alvy to fly across country and win Annie back. Allen thought the scene was so disgustingly cutesy that he allegedly tossed the prints into New York City’s East River.

Annie Hall is Woody Allens highest grossing movie by far. But it only beats Manhattan, Hannah and Her Sisters, and Midnight in Paris when adjusted for inflation.

Woody Allen didn’t like it. Although it won 4 Oscars, the director still wouldn’t refer to it as a masterpiece of his.

It’s been a while since the premiere of the Trainspotting. Fortunatelly, we do not have to

It’s been a while since the premiere of the Trainspotting. Fortunatelly, we do not have to wait that mutch tocheck the second part of the story. We collected 6 interesting facts about the movie to get you into the mood to (re)watch one of our favouirte film.

In his first 3 movies Danny Boyle chose Ewan McGregor as leading actor. They are a perfect match!

Kelly Macdonald, although supposedly 14 in the film, was 19 when making it. It was released on her 20th birthday.

T2 Trainspotting will be only the second time in McGregor’s career that he has returned to one of his earlier roles. The first was the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequels.

The football team pictured in the opening credits of Transpotting is the Calton Athletic Club, who are actually drug addiction counselors and were the primary consultants for the film.

To play the skinny heroin-addicted Renton, Ewan McGregor lost 26 pounds. It only took him two months to reach Renton’s desired size. He achieved this by grilling everything and by drinking win and gin instead of beer. Maybe we should try this!

The sex scene between Ewan McGregor and Kelly Macdonald had to be trimmed for the American release by a few seconds, mainly because it appeared that Diane – a schoolgirl in the film – seemed to be enjoying it too much.

Don’t miss the Budapest Secret Cinema event about to film. For more info click here.
