On 8 June, the iconic circular building, Hotel Budapest surprises its party-seeking visitors with three exciting DJ-sets inspired by three metropolises. What is more, conferences and additional programs will also take place.

Telekom Electronic Beats’ unconcealed purpose is to take events to unusual locations, this way creating memories that will remain conversation topics for a long time for all participants. This time, they picked Hungary’s tallest (15-storey) hotel, built in 1967, which became an inevitable part of the capital city’s view like a miniature skyscraper. It is Hotel Budapest’s opportunity to show how versatile it can be by giving home to a true summer kick-off party.

Their freshly renovated terrace welcomes local wonders Pizza Amore and Adis Abbé (founder of the popular SANTSAT open-air party series), joined by three international disc jockeys (Suzanne Kraft, Yu Su, San Proper) representing Los Angeles, Vancouver and Amsterdam.

The elongated afternoon program puts Budapest under the spotlight; the hotel’s top rooms transform into something surreal, thanks to artists with completely different perspectives. During the extraordinary hotel “sightseeing tour” visitors will be wowed by the gorgeous 360°panorama. Expect thought-provoking discussions at the conference co-organized by Neo Budapest, and a decent selection of food and drinks available until the evening.

Entry to the hotel: free, in the order of arrival. for more information, click here.

Henri PFR may be only 22 years old, but the talented Belgian DJ is already famous all around the

Henri PFR may be only 22 years old, but the talented Belgian DJ is already famous all around the continent. He was only 14 when he got into the industry, and his career has skyrocketed not long after. A little bit more then a month ago he took the DJ booth at Balaton Sound and performed in front of thousands of fans. On his way to superstardom, he kindly answered to our questions about his music, future plans and goals.

You released your debut when you were only 14. Who were your biggest supporters at the time, and what was the first response of the music industry?

At the time I was releasing songs that only my friends and family listened to. I remember the day I first passed the bar of 100 plays I was so happy haha! Then little by little my tracks started getting attention and I got over 1000 plays, then 10,000, then 1,000.000, … That’s the magic of the internet, being able to make music in your room and in one click share it with the whole world.

What is your favourite thing about being a DJ?

Music. I’m passionate about music and it’s because of the love of music that I started producing electro and became a DJ. I come from a classical piano and solfege background but I have always loved music of all genres. I love to travel as well, so I’ve found my dream job!

Do you feel like you missed out on your ‘best teen years’?

Yes. Sometimes I regret missing out on student life a little, and starting to work directly. But I’m lucky to be able to live for my passion and I think it’s priceless. On the other hand, I try to stay in touch with my childhood friends, who eventually visit me while I am on tour. It’s important to stay connected to friends and family.

How do you differ from other EDM producers?

It’s a good question because there are so many electro DJs right now that it gets harder and harder to be different. I think it’s my music that sets me apart. I have my own sound and way of producing to differentiate me. For a long time I wanted to make music to be on radio or was trying to make the same music as Garrix or Guetta. But I quickly realized that it would not work. As a DJ I have often been told that my sets are nice to watch because of all the energy I give on stage. I really enjoy myself and people can see it and therefore enjoy with me.

Who do you look up to the most professionally?

Many artists, it’s hard to name only one. Within the electronic industry Martin Garrix impresses me enormously by his young age, the quality of his productions and his energy on stage. Kygo also inspires me very much because he has managed to be much more than a “simple” DJ by truly becoming a POP Star with an incredible live show. Also, I grew up with intense classical piano training and a rock and roll fan father so I am open to many more music genres and musical idols. Outside the electro world, I would say, Mick Jagger and The Rolling Stones – despite his age he is still a beast on stage.

You have stand out shows coming up at Tomorrowland and Parookaville. How does it feel to be invited to such festivals?

It’s just amazing! Especially for me, who not so long ago was just a regular music fan in the audience of Tomorrowland partying with my friends. Now, being able to play on the Mainstage of Tomorrowland for the 2nd year in a row is simply amazing, same goes for Parookaville where I performed on the mainstage. I was super stressed and excited at the same time.

What are your biggest career goals? Is there a dream destination where you would love to perform?

My main goal would be to continue to live my passion for as long as possible, because I’m really addicted to that! Making music for the right reasons and enjoying all the opportunities that are offered to me as much as possible. I have seen so many cool places in the last few months and there are so many yet to come. I have always liked to do thing differently so I will be very happy to play on the first space shuttle. Music vs. Gravity – that could be an interesting challenge.

What you have achieved so far is truly amazing. What does the future hold? Are there any exciting collaborations in your plans?

I have a lot of new songs coming up, with tracks for my own project, collabs, tracks for other artists, but right now I am in full summer touring mode with a heavy schedule and lots of fun ahead.

Congratulations on your work, and thanks for the interview!

Thank you so much for your time. Hope the readers will like it and head over to my socials (Instagram, Facebook, etc.). I try to stay close to people and I love when people send me comments about my tracks or shows or send me new songs. So don’t hesitate to contact me.

8 July DJ Taao Kross is coming to Balaton Sound, Zamárdi to blow your mind with his dynamic EDM sets

8 July Pacha resident DJ Taao Kross is coming to Balaton Sound, Zamárdi to blow your mind with his dynamic EDM sets. We caught him for a quick interview, and asked him about his recent projects, future collaborations and his opinion on Hungary.

You are coming to Balaton Sound on 8 July. Lake Balaton’s area is very nice (and just so you know, the region is known for good quality wine). Have you ever been to Zamárdi (or the capital city, Budapest) before?

A while ago I was in Budapest and it seemed an incredible place, which I keep very good memories of. I really wanted to return and perform at the festival.

How would you introduce yourself/describe your music style to EDM fans who aren’t familiar with your music yet?

I’m a very energetic artist on stage, with a very personal music in which the audience intervenes 100% during each show. A lot of passion, strength and great sounds in unusually variant sets describe my music. Everyone should see it for themselves!

What do you consider to be the most important milestones in your career?

It is probably they closing of the stage at TOMORROWLAND UNITE in Malta. However, the most important one is definitely my becoming a resident of IBIZA in the No. 1 club of the island.

You are the resident DJ at Pacha Ibiza. How did you land this position? How does it feel to work in the “party capital” of the world?

It is something incredible for all that it supposes. Being with the best djs at the best parties and seeing your name in the capital of world electronic music is something unique.

When it comes to DJs and music producers, most people only see the fame and the parties, but it’s actually hard work. Is it challenging to balance your professional and private life?

I live 24 hours by and for the music. All day I think about the business of this industry. I work more than 15 hours a day. Something that you have to be very prepared for because it will deprive you of many things in your life.

What is your main source of inspiration?

I have a lot. It’s not something in particular, as I usually look at people who succeed at any level and try to analyze every detail needed for their success. You have to work very hard and learn all the time.

Who do you look up to in the industry?

There are many professionals towards whom I have great admiration and respect. For example, David Guetta, Swedish House Mafia, Steve Aoki, Armin van Auuren and Erick Morillo.

Is there an exciting collaboration in the cards?

I am working on new music with the world’s top artists participating. I can’t wait to release it!

You seem to be a very busy man, you travel a lot… What do you do when you aren’t on the road? What are your hobbies?

When I do not travel I spend time with my family and friends in a quiet house, enjoying my land.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer these questions. Have fun at Balaton Sound!

Thank you very much to all of you and I hope you enjoy my show!

Looking for the hippest spot in Budapest where all the rad faces of the city chill in their skinniest jeans and wayfarer-style shades while sipping cool and colourful cocktails? You don’t have go any further then Paulay Ede Street, just a stone’s throw away from the Opera House, and dive into the chic Hungarian ruin pub atmosphere.

What do we wish for when it’s halfway through summer, the sun is beating down with a hundred degrees, and we are doomed to spend the hottest days in the city? A chilly ruin pub with an open-air terrace, sunshine, a birdie or two chirping away over our heads, some warm sand to dig our toes into, and a cold beer within arm’s reach. Well, guess what? We can get all these in the middle of the city at Ankert, the open-air, younger sister of Anker Club that has opened its gates a couple of months ago. We can lay back in the garden of 800 square meters, order a drink or two at the 8 meter long bar – there’s a wide variety of cocktails to choose from, whatever you fancy – shake it at the indoor disco at the regular parties, or chuck our shoes into the corner and chill at Ankert’s very own sandy beach. If you feel like grabbing a bite, don’t miss out on their hot-dogs or the home-made beef burgers accompanied by gorgonzola cheese, as both are dilish and enormous.

Szimpla Kert (Simple Garden) is the pioneer of our ruinpubs. It is really a cult place giving new trends. Undoubtedly the best known ruinpub among the locals and the tourists, as well.

A little Szimpla-history: 2001: the beginning, the heroic age of ruinpubs; after the ’Little Szimpla’ in Kertész street, Szimpla Kert opens in Király street. Little Szimpla later moved to another place (where Iskola can be found today), while Szimpla Kert has been in Kazinczy street 14 since 2004.

Well, it can be anywhere, its atmosphere will always charm you (our favourite piece now is the table made from an old Trabant car). Its programs are as wide and unique as its atmosphere; there is place for the open-air cinema (which is the distributor of its films), for the film festivals and exhibitions, just like for the bicycle fairs, or for the houseplants left there for keep and care. If you want another round, we draw your attention to the other members of the Szimpla-nerwork: the Szimpla Café or its unit in Berlin in Gärtnerstrassen”

Doboz (“box”) is a ruin pub and bar venue in the Jewish quarter, with its great enterior design. Doboz got its name after a big, red establishment in the middle of the place, what is box-shaped. The nighclub is the biggest in the neighborhood with its great dancefloors, Salon and Grill bar. You can enjoy nice pieces of art from Hungarian photographers, sculptures and designers, but the biggest attraction of the place is undoubtadly the King Kong statue, what is climbing up a tree located in the middle of the garden. The place’s crowd is mainly a huge fan of mainstream underground culture.

Tesla opened as one of the biggest clubs in Budapest. The programme is built around intelligent electronic music, and it’s fittingly situated in the old transformer building of the Electrotechnical Museum. Tesla is not just a club though, but a cultural space open to many art forms like dance and theatre. The concert hall capable of accommodating 800 people is the biggest on the street and promises high quality entertainment, a state of the art club that would be at home anywhere in Europe.
