On March 17th 2010, the QS World MBA Tour will reach Budapest, offering an outstanding opportunity for MBA candidates to meet representatives of the world’s leading business schools. Professor Yusaf Akbar, Director of MBA Programs at CEU Business School, will lead this year’s Budapest MasterClass: “The Future of the Hungarian Economy after the Global Crisis: Myths, Realities and Implications”.
This MasterClass will focus on the long-term factors driving business development in the Central and Eastern European region, and specifically in Hungary. The global economic and financial crisis is showing signs of abating and will eventually give way to the post-crisis era in the region, a time of expected prolonged recovery. Many structural maladies which existed before the crisis have not only remained unsolved, but have worsened during the last 18 months. The key to understanding the coming post-crisis era lays not in the effects of the economic downturn, but in the resolution of complex public questions: the fight against corruption, the urgently needed reform of the tax regime, and the re-imagining of the healthcare and education systems. In his lecture, Professor Akbar will address these issues, highlighting the effects of the introduction of flat tax rates in the countries of the region; and the positive economic consequences of improving secondary education, and of amending the corporate codes abolishing a vast array of loopholes that currently facilitate tax evasion.
Dr. Akbar is Associate Professor of Management and International Business at CEU Business School. He is Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Emerging Markets, and has taught in leading business schools all over the world, including the University of Michigan’s Strategic Manager Program, Queen’s University, Canada, the Stockholm School of Economics and the Thunderbird Graduate School of International Management.
