Description

Even the most hardcore city people will give a thought to leaving B-town for the duration of this year’s Balaton Sound Festival as soon as they take a look at the 2010 line-up. Held on the “sexy beach” (for the sake of all those Hungarian Guetta fans) of Lake Balaton in Zamárdi on July 8th-11th, this highly anticipated festival will blow your mind and make your body rock to the beats of nationally and internationally celebrated DJs and singers.

Sink deep in the whirls of music, ride the waves of mass dance high and get ecstatic to the tunes of stars like David Guetta, Jamiroquai, Chemical Brothers, Pendulum, Pet Shop Boys or Anima Sound System. When you’re done dancing and your feet can’t carry you anywhere anymore, collapse on the shore of the lake and get tanned in the company of a six-pack or simply show off your six-pack and enjoy the sand, the sun and the sound.

Online ticket booking is available and you can easily find accommodation on the festival’s website (www.balatonsound.hu) along with any info you might need. Don’t miss out on one of Hungary’s most popular festivals and stir up those waves!

Get to the Zamárdi Zone
Located on the southern shore of Lake Balaton, dazzling Zamárdi boasts a 3.9 km free beach – perfect to catch some rays in tranquility or take a dip in Balaton’s cool waters. There’s plenty of other cool stuff to see in Zamárdi, too. The legendary Szamárkő, which translates as The Donkey Stone, is popular with tourists. You see, it’s a source of much lore as the stone has played an important role throughout history. It’s said to possess the footprints of Jesus and a donkey from when they passed through the area. Other tales say it was spewed from the Tihany volcano, was the site of magic rituals and sacrifices and even had a Celtic castle built around it. Maybe you should go and check it out and make your mind up – the stone lies in the hills on the western end of the town.

How to get there
To get to Zamárdi by car, just take the M7 from Budapest about 1 hour south to the lake. Trains leave Déli and Keleti stations throughout the day and take 2-3 hours depending on the train and number of connections. Train times can be found at www.elvira.hu
Check the tables here for the scheduled acts and check out www.balatonsound.hu for more information. See you at the lake!
