Fashion Forward at Trafó
Thursday, 25 February 2010 02:21

This month will be fashion and costume focused at Trafó, with two shows pushing boundaries when it comes to the stuff we put against our skin.

Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, Department of Textile Design Presents: streams of Fashion

The students of the MOME textile department will embark upon a particularly innovative venture at Trafó, transforming its theatre into a multitude of catwalks for one night only. The show promises to be unusual, to say the least. Models and dancers are set to show up at unexpected moments from every possible direction, and the practically theatrical performance will present the collections of MOME graduates and third and fourth year students. Don’t expect to see a ready-to-wear collection, since the students and artists experiment with various forms and functions, concentrating on the novelty and originality of design. The show will also present the various phases of design, exploring how an idea becomes either a piece of clothing or an extravagant haute couture piece of art.

Edit Szűcs and The Collective of Natural Disasters: Skin-membrane

Costume is no more than the outer layer of the skin, a body mask – says established local costume designer Edit Szűcs, who works with the most renowned Hungarian directors across the country. In her latest show, Skin-membrane, she deals with the complex relationship between time and the human body.

Szűcs designed the costumes for the A.R.T.’s Uncle Vanya, Marat/Sade and Mother Courage and Her Children (2001, Elliot Norton Design Award). Her works have been exhibited in Hungary, The Czech Republic, Germany and France and she’s received a number of design awards, not only in Hungary but also further afield.
