...that Budapest selective waste collection (SWC) ‘islands’ have multiplied by more than ten since 2003?

Yes, my friends, no excuses anymore. The number of selective waste collection points in Budapest was only around a humble hundred in 2003, but according to the plans, there will be 1,100 all over the city by the end of this year. Let’s make SWC a solid trend!

...how the Budapest Smog Alarm works?

Finally! Budapest law is turning greener! Since December 10th 2008, if the amount of certain dangerous substances are too high in our B-town air, the authorities have had the right to give out a Smog Alarm. This means that on odd dates, only cars with odd registration numbers are permitted into the city, and on even dates, only those with even registration numbers. Crazy stuff!

...that polar bears are getting smaller and smaller due to the climate change?

According to a study by the experts of the Aarhus University, polar bears have reduced in size due to the shrinking of the icecap on the poles. As their natural habitat has been gradually dwindling, their hunting territories and consequently, their food is disappearing as well. Ugh.

...that Hungary reached 5th place in the European Energy Trophy?

European office-blocks competed for a year in reducing the amount of energy they use by aiming to change the attitudes and the habits of their employees. The contestants managed to contribute to the fight against climate change by avioding the emission of 9,000 tons of carbon dioxide with their efforts.

...that the piece of East-German magic, the Trabant, is back – and its greener than ever?

Trabant nT, the new electro-engined prototype model by our old friend, Trabant, will debut at the Frankfurt Car Show in September. The idea is to find investors for mass production so everyone can enjoy this cute, little eco-car. It’d be priced at around 10,000 euros, but then you’d enjoy no more worried thoughts about petrol prices, ever!
