With eight years of experience and three diplomas under his belt, it is no wonder that masseur Amaury Cork’s magic hands are making waves in Budapest.

Having trained in Sydney, Australia, he has perfect English, but also speaks fluent French and is learning Hungarian. His qualifications cover sports therapies, remedial massage, trigger point therapy, oriental and seated massages (including shiatsu) as well as lymphatic drainage massage and traditional Chinese medicine. Over the years, he has worked as a corporate masseur for companies including EMI and Nokia, as well as working alongside medical professionals in various gyms. Luckily for the residents of Budapest, he moved here in 2006, and now has his own practice: Destress Massage.

Located in downtown Budapest, on the buzzing Ferenciek tere, the center is surprisingly quiet; tranquil, even. The palatial (yes, really - a king used to stay there!) building backs on to the quiet Curia utca and Veres Pálné utca. The perfect location for a forget-all-your-stresses massage, and I couldn’t wait to have mine…

Lying on the top-of-the-range massage table as candles burned nearby, I listened to soothing music and felt myself relax in the warmth of the room. Amaury gave me a 30-minute relaxation massage and focused on some troublesome areas (my left shoulder, after a disagreement with a horse). As Amaury untangled the tension with his expertise, I felt calm and rather smug to be spending a weekday morning being lured into the relaxation zone.

At the end of my massage, I certainly felt less knotty, and wondered whether I would now be able to touch my toes with minimal effort. Ask me in a week. What I did know, though, was that the center would definitely be worth a return visit.

The atmosphere is unbeatable. The impeccable and stylish décor create a stunning atmosphere. The high ceilings, gentle lighting and wooden floors are, quite simply, dreamy (I left with some serious property-envy). Plus, Destress works in conjunction with a chiropractic clinic as well as a physical therapist who focuses on rehabilitation. It's just a beautiful hub of wellness really!

All kinds of different massages are on offer, including Swedish, deep tissue, hot stone, remedial, sport, lymphatic drainage and immune system boost. And prices start at just 3,000 HUF! So now you have no excuse not to de-stress. Check this center out: Amaury is a professional masseur with an excellent manner, and the knowledge to put a spring back in anyone’s step.
